STIFFNESS TEST APPARATUS (CANTILEVER BEAM TYPE)

The apparatus converts the determination of the stiffness of plastics/paper by means of a cantilever beam. It is well suited for determining relative flexibility over a wide range.

The apparatus consisting essentially of the following :

  • Vise – A specimen vies, to which the pointer indicator is attached and which is capable of uniform clockwise rotation at a normal rater of 60 o of arc per min.
  • Weighing System – A pendulum weighing system, including an angular deflection scale, pointer indicator, bending plate of contacting the free end of the specimen and a series of detachable weights. This system shall be rotated as nearly frictionless rotation.
  • Load Scale – A fixed scale that measures the load a function of the deflection of the load pendulum system.
  • Angular Deflection Scale – The angular deflection scale shall be calibrated in degrees of arc and shall indicate the angle through which the rotating vise has been turned relative to the pendulum system.

The coefficient of friction is the ratio of the frictional resistance to the normal pressure acting on two faces in contact. This coefficient of friction is the inverse measure of the relative easy with which one surface moves over surface of another.
