Goodrich Flexometer. Astm D-623-Bs : 903

The apparatus consists of as follows:-

The test specimen is placed between anvils covered with special heat-resistant insulators. The top anvils is connected to an adjustable eccentric driven at 1800 r.p.m. The load is applied by means of a lever resting on a knife-edge with slotted weights. The moment of insertia of the lever system is equal weights of 500 lb. at each end of the lever at positions equidistant from the knife-edge. The lower anvil can be raised and lowered relative to the lever by means of a calibrated micrometer device as low as 0.01 mm. With this device the bar may maintained in a horizontal position during a test, as indicated by a pointer and a reference mark in the bar. The increase in temperature at the base of the specimen is determined by means of a thermocouple placed at the centre of the bottom anvil. A temperature indicator (digital) is attached to the therin contact with the insulated anvils during the entire compression cycles; the total length of the compression stroke is adjusted by means of a verniar and scale on the eccentric. The machine is to be equipped with a well insulated over surrounding the test specimen so as to permit running of tests at elevated temperatures. The oven is controlled by means of thermo regulator and is provided with a small motor driven fan to maintain air circulation. Use of the oven also assures uniform temperature of the air surrounding the specimen.
